It is my honor and privilege to serve as your 2018-2019 Associated Students President & CEO. As an undocumented first-generation student, I have been challenged with various obstacles. However, these obstacles have led to many experiences and opportunities. My identities give me the empowerment I need to advocate for the needs of our community. My identities, combined with my experiences, foster my passion for social justice and equity. These passions have led me to serve you through this role. As your A.S. President, I strive to be a mechanism to address the needs of our diverse campus community.
I would not be in this role without the continuous help of my support systems. I encourage you to find your own support system. They can serve as a resource to you as you navigate your way to graduation. I challenge you to venture out of your comfort zone and get involved because your unique student perspective is needed for the growth of our campus. Moreso, when you have a question, ask it! If you do not find the answer, work to find the answer yourself and share it with others who will benefit from your knowledge.
Associated Students provides you with opportunities to get involved. There are a number of services we offer to benefit your experience at SJSU. Whether it’s volunteering at our Community Garden, serving as student representative of 35,000 students, studying in the A.S. House, working in our Child Development Center, using your SmartPass, attending our events, receiving a book voucher or scholarship, ordering prints, or receiving up to $2,700 to fund your student organization, Associated Students is here to enhance your experience.
Please do not hesitate to visit us at the Government suite located in the Diaz Compean Student Union, the A.S. House or even during one of our A.S. Board of Directors meetings held every other Wednesday! Always feel free to reach out to me as I am a resource to YOU! We look forward to being of service to you this year!
