ABOUT THE A.S. 55 AWARD
The A.S. 55 Award is a recognition of distinction for student leaders who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to San José State University and who continually give back to the community. Up to 55 students will be chosen by the A.S. 55 Selection Committee to receive the award. Awardees will be recognized at the annual Student Leadership Gala on May 3, 2017 at the Diaz Compean Student Union Ballroom.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be fully matriculated: undergraduate students (6 units per semester) or graduate students (3 unitsper semester).
  • Have completed a minimum of 12 semester units.
  • Have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5.
  • Be in good standing with the University.
  • Not have been a previous A.S. 55 Award recipient.

IMPORTANT DATES

  • February 10th - March 10th: Nomination period
  • March 17th: Submission of supplementary requirements no later than 4:00pm.
    • Letter of Recommendation: submitted via e-mail.
    • Nominee Questionnaire: submitted online.
  • April 3rd: Recipients will be notified via e-mail. An invitation with details to the gala will be included.
  • May 3rd: A.S. 55 Awardees will be recognized at the Annual Student Leadership at the Diaz Compean Student Union Ballroom.

HOW TO NOMINATE A STUDENT
Students may be nominated by fellow students, faculty, staff, administrators and community members.

1. Complete an online nomination form by March 10th.

2. Submit a Letter of Recommendation via e-mail by March 17th:
Explain why you have nominated the student. Describe his/her contributions to the campus community. Please have the letter e-mailed to christy.riggins@sjsu.edu with subject: A.S. 55: NOMINEE LAST NAME, FIRST NAME March 17th no later than 4:00pm.

3. Nominee must complete the Nominee Questionnaire by March 17th no later than 4:00pm. Student nominee will complete four sections outlining the following (250 word limit per section):

  • Activities and Organization Involvement
  • Awards/Achievements
  • Community Service/Philanthropy
  • Leadership on Campus

Note to nominators: It is important to inform your student nominee to complete his/her online Nominee Questionnaire by March 17th no later than 4:00pm.

The A.S. 55 awardees are recognized at the Student Leadership Gala, a campus-wide event - in collaboration with Associated Students, Student Involvement and the Solidarity Network - celebrating the outstanding student leadership at San Jose State University.
