  Monterey-Salinas Transit line 55, 79, San Jose - Gilroy - Monterey  

 

Monterey-Salinas Transit lines 55 and 79 provide express service from San Jose Diridon station to downtown Monterey. Wifi service is available on most buses.

Line 55 runs 7 days a week with stops in Gilroy, Morgan Hill and Prundale. Line 79 runs on weekdays only (early morning and later evening) via Gilroy.

Passengers on line 79 require military issued ID to access the Presidio of Monterey (a military installation), but the service is open to all passengers between downtown Monterey and San Jose.


 

  Fare types:


MST fares are based on the number of fare zones that are partially or wholly traveled through by the passenger. The one way fare for each zone is $2.50.

One way fare to San Jose:
From Monterey (4 zones) - $9.00
From Prunedale (3 zones) - $6.75

Day pass (good for all zones) - $12.00
Monthly pass (good for all zones) - $150.00

Caltrain monthly passes with three zones or more is valid on all MST services

  SJSU stops:

San Fernando Street by 5th Street, at the northern edge of campus, however bus stop signs do not show line 79.
 
  Salinas connection:


MST bus lines 20 and 29 serve the downtown Salinas Transit Center. Line 29 connects with line 55 at the Prunedale Park & Ride stop, and line 20 connects with line 55 at Edgewater Transit Exchange.
