What is Spartan Squad?
 Spartan Squad is the official student athletic booster club of San José State University. The purpose of Spartan Squad is to support all SJSU athletic programs while increasing unity and pride throughout the student body. The idea for Spartan Squad was conceived by senior business management major Matthew Olivieri and senior business marketing major Brad Villeggiante. Former Associated Students President Rachel Greathouse, former Associated Students Executive Director Alfonso De Alba and Assistant Athletic Director Bill Penrod all provided unconditional backing as they shared in the vision and realized the potential in a student athletic booster club at San José State University. Without their support, Spartan Squad would not exist today. Their backing along with the continued ongoing support from the current Associated Students as well as San José State University Athletics made it possible for Spartan Squad to be brought to life in Fall 2005.

Spartan Squad continues to look to achieve the following:

  • Continuing the tradition of holding a free Kickoff event for SJSU students each semester.
  • Getting more students to be aware of fantastic sports to attend including more basketball, baseball, soccer, softbal,l and water polo, among others.
  • Continuting huge support for football, volleyball, gymnastics, basketball and others.
  • Advising even more students to wear their Spartan Squad shirts to any sporting event they attend, and to find other students wearing the shirts to cheer loudly with them.
  • Increasing traffic to our website - encourage thorough use to see everything it has to offer.
  • Working side by side with SJSU Athletics to make home games even more exciting and rewarding to students who wear their Spartan Squad shirts.
  • Encourage more students to travel to nearby away games such as SJSU @ Stanford.

Who can join Spartan Squad?
Current undergraduate and graduate students of San José State University can join Spartan Squad.
Why join Spartan Squad?
Being a part of Spartan Squad is all about having PRIDE for being a student at San José State Univeristy. By choosing to become a member and wearing your Squad shirt at sporting games and other events, you are identifying yourself as someone who cares to uphold Honor and Tradition while being a student at the CSU's oldest University.

How to join Spartan Squad?
Easiest way-Simply click the "Sign up now!" link on the right hand side of this website and input your name, student id, t-shirt size, etc. You can pick up your official Spartan Squad shirt in the A.S. General Services Center located in the Student Union.

Keep a sharp eye out for the occasional Spartan Squad tables near the Student Union and our big distribution events thathappen at special times!

AND Remember...

Long after you have graduated, you will always have your memories of being a Spartan Squad member forever!!!
